Namibian Wagyu Society

ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

The Namibian Wagyu Society (NWS) is a non-profit industry body established to promote Wagyu cattle as a breed and to support quality assurance of Wagyu beef products for consumers.

The Society was formed in response to the growing need for structured, responsible Wagyu breed development in Namibia—aligned with international standards while remaining practical and sustainable within local production systems.

Our overarching strategy is the development of the Wagyu breed in a manner that ultimately benefits:

  • the breed,
  • the breeder, and
  • the broader beef industry.

This is achieved through conservative, healthy, and sustainable breeding practices, aimed at supporting both local and international marbling strategies, while maintaining genetic integrity, animal welfare, and long-term commercial viability.

The Namibian Wagyu Society does not operate as a commercial entity and does not promote individual producers or service providers. Instead, it provides objective guidance, industry coordination, and educational resources to support informed decision-making across the Wagyu value chain.

OUR VISION

To position Namibia as a credible and respected Wagyu-producing country, recognised for quality, integrity, and sustainable Wagyu Production, and for delivering premium Wagyu beef to local, regional, and international markets.

OUR MISSION

  • To promote Wagyu cattle as a breed and protect breed integrity
  • To support quality assurance and consumer confidence in Wagyu beef products
  • To develop the Wagyu breed through responsible, sustainable breeding practices
  • To align Namibian Wagyu production with international Wagyu and marbling standards
  • To support breeders through education, transparency, and industry coordination

OUR STRATEGY

The Namibian Wagyu Society’s strategy, adopted in 2023, focuses on long-term industry growth, profitability, and trust.

Key strategic focus areas include:

  • Establishing Namibian Wagyu as a premium, globally recognised brand
  • Facilitating market access locally, regionally, and internationally
  • Supporting sustainable supply growth aligned with market demand
  • Protecting and expanding the local and SADC markets
  • Educating breeders, retailers, and consumers through clear protocols
  • Promoting transparency, alignment, and trust within the Society

The Society aims to facilitate a profitable and sustainable Wagyu value chain, supported by clear protocols, objective standards, and ongoing industry engagement.
